How do i change the refresh rate on my monitor?

i tried to change it through display properties %26gt; settings %26gt; advanced %26gt; monitor but it says that my monitor type is default and i cannot go into properties or change refresh rate or check hide modes the monitor cannot displayHow do i change the refresh rate on my monitor?

there should be some buttons on the front of the monitor and one would be a menu button that should let you change the refresh rate.
