How do i change the resolution or refresh rate on my t.v?

When i connect my toshiba latop to my samsung t.v it says ';mode not supported'; Why is this?

and if i can fix it can you tell me step by step

and people said my resolution was too high please tell me step by step on how to change itHow do i change the resolution or refresh rate on my t.v?
Please make sure that you have connected the correct cable betwen the laptop and TV. Also you can change the resolution in display properties of the screen.
