How can i maximise my computer display on my hdtv?

I have my computer connected to my hdtv using a vga cable. The display is decent but not brilliant.I cant help think that I might have to tweak the settings a bit.For instance I have a choice of HZ to select from.Should i use the defult lower setting of 60 HZ for refresh rate or change to higher hz?

ny help would be apreciatedHow can i maximise my computer display on my hdtv?
DO NOT change it to anything other than 60Hz....TVs do not function with any other setting except 60Hz.

The maximum screen resolution is 1920 x 1080. Try that setting....How can i maximise my computer display on my hdtv?
Use a HDMI cable instead of VGA, they're meant to support 1080p and other HDTV resolutions

If your pc doesn't have an HDMI port, there are different types of adapters out there
