Internet problems,brand new windows xp?

Hello,my computer was recently infected with alot of malware so i had to reformat my hard drive. After i did this i was trying to set up my internet! it had worked great before.every computer in my house works great.its just not detecting the connection. ive gone tried to create a new connection.

network connections--%26gt;create new connection--%26gt;connect to the internet--%26gt;set up connection manually--%26gt;connect using a broadband connection that is always on and i finish. No connection! very irritating.

i am connecting via an ethernet cable which is connected to a netgear router, and that is of course connected to the modem.

does anyone know how to fix this?

P.S:i am having a side problem, when i move a window in xp it lags a great deal,i cannot change the refresh rate in display. It just says

default monitor

use default hardware refresh rate.

and it wont let me change it

thank you!Internet problems, brand new windows xp?
You obviously haven't finished setting up your computer! You are missing drivers for your video card and monitor. As for your connection problem, run the internet connection wizard and reboot both the modem and router!Internet problems, brand new windows xp?
Have you installed the proper drivers for your network card as well as your video card?

If you let me know your computer make and model, I can give you the link to the latest drivers.
The above solutions on driver issues sound accurate.

To remedy this driver issue (for future re-installs), after you get the XP operational with correct %26amp; updated drivers, back them up to a separate CD.

It gets harder and harder to find them, and many places charge to get them.

Try Driver Magician Lite (freeware);

Use it to identify %26amp; back up all drivers for this BU. Always keep it with your unit.
Use the setup disk that your Internet Provider sent upon installation. If you don't have one, call them and ask about it.

Or, you could also look online for drivers for your network card.
