How do i use the graphics card of my laptop?

My laptop has an ATi Mobility Radeon HD2400Xt 256mb graphics card.

However, when i go to Display Settings, it says my laptop has

these graphics card description:

-Standard VGA graphics adapter.

-Total available graphics memory= 16mb

-dedicated video memory=n/a

-system video memory=n/a

-shared system memory=n/a

But when I restarted my computer and pressed F2, It says 256mb of

graphics memory. And because of this, i couldn't play any DVD movies

let alone games because i couldn't change the refresh rate as it is

default. How do i use the graphics card of my laptop?
Your notebook graphics driver and CCC is not installed .. You are running the default Standard Video Graphics Adapter Driver (VGA) for windows.(such as would occur after a windows install, BIOS update, etc.)The windows VGA driver provides minimal functionality for graphics only.

F2 is showing you the total peripheral Memory allocation for your adapter.

Reinstall your mobility driver and CCC for the HD 2400 XT.

If you are running 32-bit windows install it off your driver disk , or download it from computer manufacture website, unzip and install.

note- if you are running x64 windows, and the driver package provided is 32-bit (x86) you have two options to install the driver:

1. xp pro x64 does not require signed drivers so download the 64-bit desktop version from amd.com, and use the modtool to modify it for mobility.

2. Vista x64 disable the device signing at startup and install unsigned modded driver, or force the x64 desktop version driver through device manager.

Note2-

If you are running the version of windows that came with your computer. and it is still under warranty I suggest calling the tech support number and having them walk you through the video driver reinstall.
